Reportback on Presentation to City Council

April 7, 2010

Hello supporters of the Circle Food Store,

Thanks to all who came out to City Hall last Thursday to support Circle Food Store owner Dwayne Boudreaux as he presented to members of the City Council on his progress in getting the store back!

Mr. Boudreaux’s presentation covered the store’s history, efforts to bring the store back, and future plans for the store’s reopening. He also gave the Council a visioning document featuring testimony from neighborhood residents about the store’s importance, design schemes for the renovated store, and a business plan. Stephanie McKee, Director of 7th Ward Neighborhood Center, also spoke briefly about the significance of the store to community members, and handed each Council member a packet of more than 300 postcards signed by residents who want to bring the store back

Mr. Boudreaux’s request for City Council to direct him to appropriate resources and technical assistance was met with an overwhelmingly positive response. Council members Carter, Willard-Lewis, Hedge-Morrell, Fielkow, Head, and Clarkson all spoke in support of the store’s reopening.

The Campaign to Bring Back the Circle Food Store will be meeting to discuss the successful City Hall presentation and plan next steps on Thursday, February 25 at 6:30pm at the 7th Ward Neighborhood Center. Before then, stop by the Center to pick up your Bring Back Circle Food Store button and additional postcards to sign and turn in to the Council.

Thanks,
Sarah Howard
7th Ward Neighborhood Center
